IC WAND FAQS: Are glass wands safe? Yes in fact they are quite safe and in terms of germs and disease it is the safest material to use. IC Wands have been rigorously tested and proven to be extremely durable. Our products are kiln tempered for as much as 24 hours at extreme temperatures metabolically strengthening the Pyrex and making it resilient to extreme temperature changes. Of course as with any glass if dropped on a concrete floor it will break and if you notice any chips or cracks in your toy you should dispose of it immediately. Why are glass pain relief wands so expensive? Basically because they are time consuming, labor intensive products to create. Some of our pieces take up to 1-2 hours to form (ourlampworkers are master glassblowers, with years of training and experience) then the piece is kilned. The annealing process, which strengthens the glass wand, takes 24 hours or more to heat and cool down. You may see glass wands available at lower prices but believe us when we say you can tell the difference! Beware of Glass Wands that are made of a cheaper grade glass, done by inferior blowers or maybe even cast by children in China! In glass pain relief wands, as with anything else, "you get what you pay for" and with IC Wands you simply get the best... Is there a way to test the glass for flaws? All Glass used is Polariscope tested both in it's raw stock form and after the pieces are finished to ensure that they are free of flaws. A Polariscope is a laboratory tool that can be used to identify and evaluate residual strain in annealed glass containers and similar products. It provides an effective tool for determining structural, annealing and resultant temper stresses and the presence of compositional irregularities in many types of glass or related products. Can I heat up or cool down my Glass Wand? Warming: To warm your wand, we suggest filling your sink with the desired temperature of warm water and soaking your wand for 20 to 30 minutes, giving the heat time to soak all the way into the center. Use caution when heating. Do Not over heat, as it may cause burns to sensitive skin. Test before using. Cooling: For an unusual feeling, we suggest placing your new Wand in the refrigerator, NOT THE FREEZER, for a period of 20 to 30 minutes. "WARNING" - DO NOT place your new wand in the freezer. Pyrex Glass is NOT intended to be frozen. Going from freezing cold to room temperature, or body heat, may shock the glass causing it to fracture. DO NOT FREEZE. Lubrication? You may use your favorite lubrication on your new wand. You will find that because of the ultra smooth finish of your new wand, your lubrication will not become sticky or gummy. How do I clean my glass wand? We recommend that you clean your Pyrex glass wand using warm water, a mild non-toxic detergent and a soft rag or sponge. In fact, all of the glass wands we sell are dishwasher safe enabling you a more extensive method of cleaning, just be sure to use a mild non-toxic detergent. If you experience any type of reaction, discontinue the use of any soap(s) and rinse the glass wand thoroughly with warm water. How do I store my new wand? With care, your new wand will last forever. Care should be taken to keep your item scratch free and clean. Always keep your wand when not in use in the pouch provided. By all means treat it with the respect that any high quality item should be.
